If travelling by car

At the junction 40 roundabout, take the exit marked Penrith / Brough and follow the A66 for about 0.7m to the next roundabout. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Bridge Lane (A6) and head towards the centre of Penrith. Go straight on through two sets of lights and 100m after the second set turn right onto Old London Road. After 50m and a left hand bend, this becomes Friargate. The Trust Offices are on the left hand side 50m ahead, immediately before a small Car Park. The main entrance is around the back of the building.

There are parking facilities directly opposite the Trust office building, but limited to stays of one hour or less. Parking disks are needed, and can be obtained from the office. For longer stays, there are a number of options. For stays of up to 3 hours, there is a free Car Park at Sainsbury’s Supermarket. It is only 2-3 minutes walk from the Supermarket to the office. To park at Sainsbury’s, follow the instructions above until Bridge Lane, but go left at the first lights. The Leisure Centre is visible at this point. Follow the road for about 300m, keeping left, until a mini roundabout is reached adjacent to the main supermarket entrance, where two car parking locations are available (under cover and open).

After parking, head back towards Bridge Lane, which becomes King Street, and look for the right hand turn to Old London Road. Keep to the LHS and follow the road which becomes Friargate after 50m. The Office is 50m ahead on the left (the entrance is around the back of Friargate).

For stays beyond 3 hours, there is a pay and display Car Park adjacent to the Bus Station. The charge for a full day’s parking is currently £4. If this is needed, follow the instructions above to the Trust offices but continue along Friargate for about 300m until a double mini roundabout is reached. Turn left at the second mini roundabout and head down the hill and after 50m take the second turn to the right. The car park is on the RHS, 20m ahead.
