The Diocese of Carlisle's Multi Academy Trust has officially welcomed its second partner school today.

Pupils, staff, parents and governors at Heversham CE Primary School celebrate joining The Good Shepherd Multi Academy TrustHeversham St Peter’s CE Primary School joined The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust just four months after Lazonby C of E School became the first in the county to join.

Michael Mill, the diocese's Director of Education, Children and Young People, said: “We are delighted that the pupils, parents, staff and governors of Heversham St Peter’s have chosen to commit to The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust.

“In February we saw an important milestone reached for the Trust, with our first school choosing to join us. But this is equally important. It signifies continued growth and recognition from other schools across the county of the very real benefits that becoming a partner in our Multi Academy Trust will bring.

“Through mutual collaboration and support networks The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust will help ensure a successful and sustainable future for Heversham School and other partner schools.”

The Good Shepherd Multi Academy Trust’s ultimate aim is to provide robust and sustained school effectiveness, within a Christian ethos and structure.

Coupled with that are the benefits that like-minded schools will have to shape their future and think about curriculum innovation, as well as looking to develop new support structures focused on the needs of the schools in the Trust.

Cleo Cunningham, is the headteacher of Heversham St Peter’s CE Primary School, which has 41 pupils from Reception to Year 6 and a total of 10 staff.

The Bishop of Penrith, the Rt Rev'd Robert Freeman, presents headteacher Cleo Cunningham with a letter of welcome from The Good Shepherd Multi Academy TrustShe said: “We are delighted to join the Good Shepherd Academy Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for Heversham St Peter’s CE Primary School to become part of a family of schools under the umbrella of the Diocese of Carlisle’s very own academy trust.

“Our already excellent educational provision will be enhanced so that, for many years to come, we can continue to provide the best opportunities for our children to learn and grow as individuals in a caring environment built on Christian values.”

Pupils, staff and Trust directors marked the first school day of the new partnership with a period of collective worship today (Monday 1 June, 2015). It included reference to the school’s history, joining the Trust, children’s prayers and a song.

The Bishop of Penrith, the Rt Rev’d Robert Freeman, also attended the event. He said: “It is wonderful to see that the diocese’s Multi Academy Trust is continuing to grow. Through this process, partner schools will be able to offer and draw on the mutual support and collaboration which is available, all of which is undergirded by the Christian ethos of our church schools.

“I’m delighted that I have been able to spend time with the children and staff at Heversham St Peter’s CE Primary as they mark this important milestone.”
